Why You Need A Business Website + Phone

Every business needs a website. These days, the first place customers look for you is on the web. Many customers will check out your website after finding you in an online search or clicking on your Google business profile, so you need to be prepared.

Having a dedicated business email and phone line to connect with customers instead of using your personal email and phone number will help you look a lot more professional, too. When clients call, they’ll get a voicemail message that introduces your business instead of the message made for your friends and family. Plus, you can maintain more privacy by keeping your personal contact information off of your business marketing materials.

How does having a website benefit your business?

There multiple ways a website can help you build your business, especially when you’re starting out. Here are a few of the main reasons to get a business website:

A website…

  • Saves you time on customer service by explaining your products, services, hours, and maybe answering some frequently asked questions
  • Allows you to share you company’s history and mission

Creating a website might just be the best thing you do for your company!

In-Depth Service Details & FAQs

Virginia Business Presence includes domain name, website, SSL security, business email, and virtual phone service. Here’s a deep dive into these services along with answers to commonly asked questions about each.

Domain Name

A domain name is also called a web address or url—it’s what you type into the search bar to go straight to a website. For example, you’d type “VirginiaRegisteredAgent.com” into the search bar to go directly to our site.

With Virginia Business Presence, you get your domain name free for a FULL YEAR (up to $25 value). After a year, you can renew easily and affordably ($25/year average cost).

Why do you need your own domain name?

We know that some of our competitors offer free websites. However, those websites come with long, complex domain names.

These long domains make it harder for customers to remember your domain and find your later. For example, imagine that someone asks for your web address and you say, “www.webcompanyname.freewebsite/yourbusinessname1.com.” Not only is that a real mouth full, no one’s going to remember all that.

Plus, because the domain contains the name of the company providing the site, it’s advertising that company just as much as it’s advertising your business. This takes the focus off of your business, and it doesn’t look very professional.

What makes a good domain name?

A good domain name is short, simple, and as similar to your business name as possible. This makes it easy to recall and helps customers find you online.

Why do domains have different prices?

We offer a free domain name for a year, up to a $25 value, so you may be wondering—why the “up to”? That’s because different domains have different prices. These prices are typically based on the suffix of your domain: .com, .org, .net, and so on. This part of your web address is a called “top-level domain” or “TLD.”

A global non-profit company named the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) sets limits on the number of specialty TLDs that can be used (for example, .shop or .game). Limited TLDs are usually more expensive.

Domain names that are popular, super simple, or contain common keywords (like “business” or “maps”) can also be more expensive because there’s a lot of competition for these domains. The average cost for a domain renewal is $10-25.

What if already have a domain with a different company?

If you’ve already got a domain but you want to streamline how you run your business by getting your registered agent and web services in one place, talk to our web services team about transferring your domain! They can walk you through the process, and you’ll still get a free year of domain service. To transfer your domain, you need to have had the domain registered for at least 60 days.

Website

Our service is designed for small business owners who need a polished website quickly and for those with little web experience. You’ll get a website on a pre-built template that you can easily update with drag-and-drop tools or with assistance from our web services team.

What does our website template include?

Our website template includes a Homepage, About Us page, and Contact Us page. With our website builder, you can add custom images and text, and you can also change the colors and fonts on your site. You don’t need an coding or tech experience.

How do we help you create your website?

Our team can give you instructions on how to update your site over the phone. We can also log in to your website and make the changes for you if you’d prefer for us to do the heavy lifting. We’ll meet you at your comfort level.

What if I already have a website with another company?

If you’ve got a website with another company, you may be able to migrate that site over to our hosting service without losing anything on your site. Talk to our web services reps about what’s possible.

SSL Security

You’ll know that website doesn’t have SSL security when you try to visit the site and get a message such as “Your connection is not private” or “The security certificate cannot be verified.” Upon receiving a message like that, most people choose not to enter that site.

Don’t make the mistake of not having SSL security on your website and driving customers away.

How does SSL security work?

SSL stands for “Secure Sockets Layer,” and SSL security is an encryption protocol that creates a secure barrier around data transmitted through your site. This layer of protection prevents hackers and other bad actors from accessing your and your customers’ sensitive data. If a website has SSL security, you’ll be able to tell because its web address will start with “HTTPS” instead of simply “HTTP.”

Why do you need SSL security?

First, you can lose out on potential customers when they come to your site and receive a “not secure” message. Additionally, search engines flag websites without SSL security and may exclude your site from search results, making it more difficult for customers to find you.

Most importantly, not having SSL security is dangerous because it puts your and your customers’ data at risk. Without SSL security, your site and all its data are vulnerable to hackers, and you don’t want your or your customers’ financial or personal information to get stolen. SSL security helps keep everyone safe.

Business Email

With our business email service, you can make up to 10 email addresses that end with your domain (ex: [email protected]). Having an email address that clearly belongs to your business looks professional and helps keep your personal email address private.

Why is having a business email important?

Having an email address that is specific to your email lends your business credibility. Customers may be less likely to open an email sent from an address they don’t recognize or that seems unprofessional. Additionally, emails from generic domains like Yahoo and Gmail may get sent to the spam folder.

Virtual Phone

Getting a business phone line used to be expensive and unwieldy because you’d have to buy a new line and another phone. But with virtual phone service, you can get a separate line at a reasonable cost and without having to purchase an additional device.

Our phone service is a great deal. While our competitors charge an average of $20/month, our price is just $9/month (less if you get the 20% discount for bundling all Business Presence services).

Why is having a business phone line important?

Some small business owners use their personal phone number for their business. But that can get complicated. For example, do you want potential customers to call and hear the voicemail message you created for friends and family? Or what if you ignore a call or answer in a way that makes a bad impression because you don’t realize you’re getting a call from a client?

Having a dedicated business phone line allows you to craft a business voicemail message, maintain your professionalism, and keep your business and personal communications separate.

How does virtual phone service work?

Our virtual phone service uses Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP, technology. Unlike a landline or cell number, VoIP numbers aren’t tied to specific devices, SIM cards, or locations. VoIP service is cloud-based, so all you need to use your service is an internet connection. Use our free app to access your line.

What are the features of our virtual phone service?

Here’s what you get with our phone service:

  • A number with a local Virginia area code
  • Calls forwarded to your current device (US number required)
  • Unlimited calls and SMS text messages (ingoing and outgoing)
  • Ability to set up a professional voicemail greeting
  • Ability to have your business name show up when you call clients using customized Outbound Caller ID
  • Access to your voicemail and messages using our free iOS or Android app (available in US app stores)
